I haven’t blogged in a while.  I’ve been feeling a little funktastic the last few weeks.  Sorry. For. Myself.  Please don’t tell my Dad.
Let me be clear, I have a wonderful life.  But, if Sugarland was working on a new song geared toward middle-class stay at home mom types who sometimes get overwhelmed I think I would inspire them.  My computer crashed. The people who help me with the house didn’t show up when they said they would. I tried the Re-boot juice cleanse and couldn’t stick with it. My children refuse to nap. Sometimes I feel a little lonely.
So, when a Mom struck up a convo at the playground with me last week I got super excited.  Because I really want friends.  Really, really, really want friends.

Mom: I’ve seen you at The Discovery Center.

Me:  Yes, we are hard to miss.

Mom: I went to Zumba for two hours today.

Me:  Wow, that’s awesome.  I don’t think I’m coordinated enough for Zumba.

Mom:  You have to get the legs down and then add your arms.

Me: Oh.  Ok.  Good advice.

Mom: See my little girl on the bike?  I just taught her to ride it this morning.

Me:  Wow.  She’s amazing.

Mom:  Yes, she is.  Do your girls go to school?

Me:  Not yet.  They are starting First Pres in the fall.

Mom: My daughter went to Magical Fantastic (pseudo-name) Preschool.  My son is starting in the fall too.  My daughter goes to Wonderful Amazing (another pseudo-name) Magnet School.  Your girls won’t get into a Magnet school unless you prep them.

and…SCENE!

The Mompetition begins.  I’m stealing the phrase from one of my favorite blogs.
http://www.themompetition.com/

Mompetition = we can not be friends.

I saw a baby die in the NICU.  At that moment I promised myself I would just love my babies and cherish every minute with them.  And also try to get them into a Magnet School, but I digress.

I’m just looking for a friend, a true and kindred friend.  Someone who tells me it’s totally normal when The Trifecta eats sand or licks the picnic table at the park.  Someone who won’t judge me when one of my girls has a full-blown temper tantrum during story hour at the library.  Someone who wants support and encouragement from me and agrees not to judge my mistakes if I won’t judge hers.

Okay.  That’s all.

Small Fry Tri

Our thirty Tiny Toes participated in the Murfreesboro Small Fry Tri on Saturday.  The event consisted of 25 yard dash, tricycle ride, and then an intense sprinkler run.

Hendley Grace made it very clear from the beginning, “I will not run through da wader.”

The Trifecta warms up for the big race.
Safety first.
Various levels of "ready." And enthusiasm.
Group warm up.  Feel the burn.
Okay, I really don't want to be a bragger.  But, this is my Libby Lou kicking some bootie.  Look at that stride!  Her form!
This is my Hendley Grace. At this point, I could not run along side her because the laughter leaving my body paralized me. This girl can run faster than the wind. On this particular day, she went with a "petite" stride. Needless to say, she is bringing up the rear.
Bike ride = Intensity
I missed the sprinkler run completely. Because I was cheering/laughing hysterically.
   Champions.

Amazing Airport Adventure

Today I took the Tiny Toes on a field trip to the airport with my MOMS group.
They could not wait to see the airplanes.
We learned about the parts of the airplane.  Did you know they have a nose and tail?

We felt excited when we had the opportunity to walk inside the MTSU
airplane.
Elizabeth:  Oh my goodness!
Hendley:  This is so amazin'!
Mary Ellis: I'm going to fly this plane!

Elizabeth had her eyes on the sky!

Hendley Grace decided she would take charge of the control panel.
Mary Ellis fell into a state of bliss like nothing I had ever before witnessed.  Following this photograph the tour guide said, "Ok, it's time to go."  At this point, Mary Ellis threw herself onto the ground and started to scream.  She continued to scream and cry for several minutes.  She continued to scream and cry when we left the plane.  She continued to scream and cry when we walked to the car.  She continued to scream and cry when we drove home.  Suddenly, she fell silent.  15 minutes passed.  Then, she spoke.  "Mommy, when I grow up I am going to be a pilot," she stated.
Mary Ellis recaps.
Elizabeth shares.
We had a wonderful day.

Fun on the Farm

Some days just make you want to happy dance.  Thursday was a happy dance day. We took The Trifecta to Lucky Ladd Farms.

We fed the hens, baby chicks, goats, and the llama!

Sometimes when you feed animals you just have to throw food at them.
By FAR the best part of the day involved a very large slide and a playground of fun.

My voice resembles shrieks of death, but it's just because I felt happy.

I love this girl.

Sometimes you have to chicken dance.

I am so thankful for my Tiny Toes Trifecta.

Lessons

I love picking The Trifecta up from Sunday School.  Chris and I usually spend the hour camped outside the door, peaking in the window and listening for their cries.  Because we are crazy, that’s why.

When the hour comes to an end their saint of a teacher and her assistant line them up at the door, pray with them, and then unleash them into the hallway.
They scream, “MOMMY!  DADDY!” and begin their routine of sharing.  Hendley begins by reporting those who “were not makin’ good choices.”  Elizabeth follows with the snack synopsis.  Mary Ellis needs a minute to snuggle.

“What did you learn about today?” Chris asked this past Sunday.  “Heewing,” Mary Ellis replied. “Peter and John went to the temple to pway,” Hendley shared.
“They healed the name man! He couldn’t walk!” Elizabeth exclaimed. “Day were jumpin’ da air!” added Hendley.

In case you didn't get that, Mary Ellis told me about the man who was sick and couldn't walk (The "name" man, aka, the lame man). When Peter and John saw the man he asked them for money. Hendley told me that the man got something better than money.

It made we really happy to hear them talk about what they learned.  Their lessons teach me too.
Jesus gave Peter and John the ability to heal the man in His name.  He still performs miracles today.  Look at The Tiny Toes Trifecta!  If their conception and delivery don't amaze you, keep in mind they weighed about 3 pounds a pop at birth.
Everything good in my life has come from Jesus.  To each person reading this blog, it is my prayer that if you have a boo-boo, whether it is emotional or physical, God will heal you too.
With God all things are possible!

Infertility PSA

“I don’t know why people say this kind of stuff to me,” my friend stated on the phone this morning.  She continued, “It’s so hurtful and it makes me feel crazy.”
I could completely relate.  It feels like not so long ago that I shared the same words with any person willing to listen, including but not limited to:  Chris, My Mom, co-workers, friends, doctors, grocery store clerks, waiters, my hair stylist, Wal-Mart employees, and our drycleaner.

Infertility…it stinks.  You feel sadness and disappointment for a laundry list of reasons.  Unexpectedly, it comes from family and/or friends attempting to comfort you, because they love you.   We had this discussion in one of our adoption meetings.  We agreed the following list of comments made us want to punch people in the eye.
1.      “It’s God’s will you haven’t had a baby yet.” Splendid.  My body is working against me, and now God and I are having a disagreement about whether or not I should conceive?  No one believes in the power of God’s will more than I do.  However, I can assure you there is nothing less comforting to a couple struggling with infertility than the sentiment that God isn’t ready for them to bring a baby into their family.
2.      “My spouse and I get pregnant just by looking at each other.” And/Or, “We always get pregnant on our first try.”  Fantastic.  I could not feel more excited for you than I do at this very moment.  I have urinated on over 10,000 ovulation sticks and 5,000 pregnancy tests.  We have spent approximately $25,000 on fertility treatments.  I have a small pharmacy of hormones in my medicine cabinet.  Let me go throw myself in front of a bus while you and your spouse look at each other.
3.      “Just adopt!  You’ll get pregnant for sure!” Liar, liar, pants on fire. I always hesitate to tell people that The Trifecta was conceived after we began the adoption route.  The process is brutal; paperwork, questionnaires, essays, letters of recommendation, required reading, physicals, and financial commitments. We met a wonderful couple in our adoption class.  She couldn’t speak to me after we found out we were pregnant.  I do not blame her.  I’ve been there. As crazy as it sounds, you feel betrayed when you befriend someone else experiencing infertility, share your thoughts and feelings with them, find comfort in the common struggle …and then they get pregnant. Chris still maintains contact with her husband via email.   They have not conceived a child yet.  They have had two adoptions fall through at the last minute.  That was five years ago.
4.      “Have you thought about taking a vacation?  I think you just need to relax.” That’s a phenomenal idea.  I would love a holiday from the daily chore of taking and tracking my temperature before moving a muscle and/or empting my bladder.  Relax?  My muscles are a little tense right now.  You see, the reproductive endocrinologist just poked me with 150 needles and shot ink up my privates to make sure my ovaries aren’t clogged.   Or maybe I’m feeling edgy because the Clomid I’m taking gives me hot flashes that resemble the fires of hell?  My vagina just told me she’s exhausted and wants to go to the beach.  I’m thinking Antarctica.
5.      “Have you tried ____?” Acupuncture?  Eating red grapes?  IVF?  IUI? Hormones? Vitamin B-12?  Apple cider vinegar baths? The Infertility Diet?  Robitussin Cough Syrup?  Howling at the moon? Let me think for a moment…I spend 3-5 hours a day on the internet reading blogs, visiting infertility chat rooms, and searching for the article that will “fix” my problem.  Yes.  I’m pretty sure I’ve tried just about everything at this point.
Infertile couples aren’t perfect either. I believe infertility makes you crazy.  After our miscarriage and during our struggle to conceive I was a nightmare.  I made hurtful comments to pregnant friends.  I isolated dear and wonderful people in my life, while they were expecting, because I was jealous and sad. I deeply regret my actions and behavior during that time in my life.

To those who know and love someone experiencing infertility, I offer the following advice: just listen, just love them.
Disclaimer:  No one elected me the official spokesperson of infertile women and men (yet).   My thoughts, opinions, and experiences are in no way those of every infertile woman and man.  Please don’t punch me in the throat.

Naughty Nappers

At 2:00 pm we laid them down to rest.

At 2:05 I heard a thud.  Chris went upstairs to take care of the crazy.

At 2:15 I heard another thud.  I opened the door of The Trifectas’ bedroom.  Chaos.  Insanity.  Pandemonium.
“Rest your eyes.  Rest your mouths.  Rest your bodies.  If you don’t, you won’t get ice cream,” I whispered.

The pattern continued until 3:00.  Perhaps they fell asleep.
At 3:30 the singing began.  “Work together, YES WE CAN!  Work together, YES WE CAN!” their voices chanted. Chris and I stood outside the door and giggled.  “Aren’t they sweet?” I asked.

We opened the door.  They each held a piece of chalk, the wall their canvas.  Hendley dropped the chalk.  Elizabeth froze. “Hey Mama, what are you doing here?” Mary Ellis questioned.
I had to leave the room.  Because at times like this I think parents are supposed to give the kids the smack down.  But I was laughing too hard.

“Bring me your chalk and sit down,” Chris stated in his sternest voice.

Check out the masterpiece.

That's right.  Three artists.  Three pieces of chalk.  Three walls.

Clean up time.

Did we handle this "the right way?"  Probably not.  We're open to criticism.
